Who's this Online Product Sales Essentials Bundle for?
This bundle is for anyone who sells products (i.e., things) as opposed to services (i.e., things you do) online. Products can range from beauty products or food to designer clothes, jewellery, furniture, equipment parts or raw materials. If you are providing software, see our Software Agreement instead.
What’s in this Online Product Sales Essentials Bundle?
This bundle contains the three vital legal documents you need to sell products online:
- Product Terms of Sale - these terms provide information to your customers regarding the purchase of your products (eg, delivery timeframes, your returns and exchanges policy) and protect you by making it clear what you are responsible for.
- Website Terms of Use - this document lets users know what they can and can’t do on your website (eg, can’t copy the website’s content), what you are allowed to do (eg, change the website at any time) and what you’re not responsible for (eg, reviews written by other people).
- GDPR-compliant Privacy Policy - to comply with the law, businesses must tell customers how they collect their personal information (ie, names, phone numbers, email addresses) and what they use it for. Having a privacy policy makes it easy for customers to find this information and helps build customer trust - which leads to increased sales! This privacy policy also includes an option to include additional information to comply with the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If your business has a presence in the EU, provides or offers goods and services to EU customers, or tracks users and behaviours in the EU, you need to have a GDPR Privacy Policy on your website. If you are required to comply with the GDPR, non-compliance can result in significant fines.
As well as:
- Online Business Start-up Checklist - all the essentials to check off when starting your own online business, from business structure choice (company? sole trader? what’s the difference?) to GST registration, securing your business name, and how to choose your online platform and payment processor. This simple, easy-to-understand checklist is customised for online business owners.
- Guide to Consumer Law in New Zealand – this valuable summary of the critical pieces of NZ consumer law (Consumer Guarantees Act, Fair Trading Act) lets you know when you’re required to provide a refund, what you can say when you advertise and other compliance essentials.
- Checklist for Negotiating with Your Suppliers – on your terms! – when you buy products and equipment from a wholesaler or manufacturer, they’ll probably require you to sign their legal agreement or terms of trade. Our checklist tells you what to look for to ensure you get the best deal and protect your business.
Why do I need this Online Product Sales Essentials Bundle?
By letting customers know their rights if they’re not satisfied with your products, and what you do with their personal information, you are complying with the law and building customer trust. Website T&Cs reduce your exposure to risk and liability if your website doesn’t work as it’s meant to or if someone is doing something they shouldn’t be. Purchase this bundle to gain knowledge, protection and increased sales due to greater customer confidence!
How long will it take to create my documents?
Approx. 10 minutes – faster than doing the office coffee run! During the Q&A you can save your progress to come back later, or repeat the Q&A to change an answer or produce a new version of a document.
What information do I need to complete the Q&A?
- Your business number (if you have one). New Zealand Business Numbers can be found by searching your organisation’s name here
- When (if at all) you will allow exchanges/refunds for change of mind
- Proposed product delivery timeframes (if relevant)
